Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has provided a special budget for the development of religious institutions in the city. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has made a provision of Rs 25 crore to develop around the trust-run religious places in the city. It has been decided for the purpose of preservation of religious places and preservation of ancient and historical heritage.

Ahmedabad city is also known as a heritage city. Along with the historical heritage, Ahmedabad city has many features. The city has seen ups and downs from the British period to the Mughal period or the Solanki dynasty. Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has made provision of a special budget of 25 crores for primary facility works in all religious places coming to Ahmedabad city.

The Deputy Commissioner per zone has been empowered to spend Rs five lakh from the AMC for basic facility works for the religious institution which is ancient and of historical heritage type. And for the allocation of amount under the works above five lakhs up to a maximum of Rs.10 lakhs, the approval of the Standing Committee shall be taken through the concerned zone.

This allocated amount will be used for capital type works of basic facilities like approach road, stone paving, water, light, sewerage and installation of water cooler and solar panel in the institution. Further, the amount allocated above cannot be used for revenue type expenditure like light bill, repairs etc.

The religious institutions shall submit to the AMC a copy of the resolution for the work decided by the Corporation for AMC assistance. A separate registered trust of a religious organization should be constituted and the income-disbursement accounts of the trust should be audited and the audit report of the last two years should be submitted.

It is worth mentioning that the land title on which the religious institution is located should be clear. Also, according to the requirements of the organization, the application has to be made in the respective zone and department and the necessary documents have to be submitted as per the circular along with the application. After receiving the application from the organization, after approving the estimate from that zone and department, after booking the budget at the finance, AMC, like other works, these works will have to be done by the corporation itself. Once the work is completed, if any further expenditure is incurred for the work within the amount allocated by the AMC, the cost will be borne by that organization.
