India has defeated England by 7 wickets in the first T20 match. Team India did well in the first bowling and restricted the English team to a score of 132 runs. Then, thanks to Abhishek Sharma’s half-century, India chased down the target of 133 runs in the 13th over. There were many aspects that made Team India victorious in this match.
Abhishek Sharma returns to form
Abhishek Sharma has made a name for himself as an explosive batsman. Before the first T20 against England, he scored 256 runs in 11 innings at a blistering strike rate of 171.81. But his average below 24 remained a concern. Now he has created a sensation in Kolkata by playing an innings of 79 runs in just 34 balls. He brought up his half-century in the first 20 balls and also hit 5 fours and 8 sixes in his innings. His return to form was a big reason for India’s win.
Prevented England from making a big contribution
Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and decided to bowl first. The Indian bowlers started putting pressure on the England batsmen right from the beginning. Arshdeep Singh gave England the opening two blows, with Varun Chakraborty and Axar Patel doing the rest in the overs in between. The highest partnership for England was 48 runs, by Jos Buttler and Harry Brook. Apart from that, in the absence of a big partnership, England failed to score big.
Varun Chakraborty’s Deadly Magic
Varun Chakraborty’s lethal spell was also an important contributor to the Indian team’s victory. He took three important wickets for just 23 runs in his 4 over spell. First he gave England a double blow by dismissing Harry Brook and Liam Livingstone in the same over. After that, he also took the wicket of captain Jos Buttler. Chakraborty is in such great form that he has taken 20 wickets in the last 8 matches.
