New cases of cyber crime are coming up every day. Sometimes people are made victims by giving them money and sometimes by giving them false promises of jobs. In one such case, the Indian government rescued 67 victims from Laos.
The youth were taken to Laos on the pretext of employment
These youths have been rescued from cyber-scam centers in the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone (GTSEZ) of Lao PDR. These youths were taken to Laos under the guise of well-paid jobs. There they were forced to commit cyber fraud. Youths were threatened by criminal syndicates in GTSEZ. When these youths appealed for help, the Indian Embassy swung into action and officials contacted the youths.
Ambassador Prashant Agarwal met the youth
A team of embassy officials visited GTSEZ. Completed the necessary paperwork along with the officials there. This was followed by transportation from Bockio to Vientiane. Apart from this, accommodation and food arrangements were also made for the youth. Indian Ambassador to Lao PDR Prashant Agarwal met the youth. He assured security and said that the Embassy’s support for their safe return to India was the highest priority. He also advised them on further action including lodging a complaint against the cheating agents.
This issue was raised at the highest level
Embassy officials are working with Lao authorities to complete the formalities to bring the youth back to India. Ambassador Prashant Agarwal said that we thank the Lao authorities for their cooperation. We have also requested him to take action against the criminals who are playing with the future of the youth. This issue has been raised at the highest level. He said that the embassy has so far rescued 924 Indians, out of which 857 have been brought back to India safely.
