Sarfraz Khan: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the squad for the two four-day matches at home against South Africa A. After recovering from injury, Rishabh Pant has been given the responsibility of captaincy. Both these matches will be played at the BCCI Center of Excellence in Bengaluru. As usual this time too the barrage of allegations started after BCCI announced the team. Team India’s middle order batsman Sarfraz Khan has not been selected in both the matches. Even senior batsman Karun Nair has not been given a chance in the team, yet there is more buzz about Sarfraz. Head coach Gautam Gambhir is under a lot of criticism and an old statement of his is going viral. In January, Gambhir had alleged, without naming anyone, that dressing room matters were leaking, which did not augur well for the team. Why Gambhir’s Old Dressing Room Statement Goes Viral, Claims Sarfraz Khan

Gambhir never took Sarfaraz Khan’s name

Now people are linking Gautam Gambhir’s statement of leaking dressing room talks with Sarfraz Khan. Some people believe that Gambhir told Sarfaraz these things, as Sarfaraz was with the team at the time and Gambhir felt that he had leaked the dressing room matters. Let us tell you once again that Gambhir did not name anyone in his statement. Some media houses linked him with Sarfaraz, as Sarfaraz was new to the team at that time. A channel later claimed that Gautham said these things only to Sarfraz, as he wanted to know Gambhir’s thoughts from a senior member of the team.

How did Sarfraz Khan get out of the team?

BCCI’s decision to keep Sarfraz out can only be for cricket related reasons. However, Sarfaraz was at the center of several incidents during India’s 2024/25 tour of Australia. On the eve of the last Test of that tour, Gambhir spoke of a leak from the Indian dressing room. He said, ‘Indian cricket will be in safe hands as long as there are honest people in the dressing room. Performance alone keeps you going to the dressing room. Honest words were said and honesty is important. The Australian media completely linked Gambhir’s statement to Sarfaraz Khan and tried to prove that it was Sarfaraz who leaked things from the Indian dressing room.

The Australian media was the first to mention Sarfraz

On the first day of that Test, on 3 January 2025, The Australian published a report in which Bharat Sundaresan wrote a lot about a reserve player in the Indian team and quoted an Indian cricketer saying that I think Gambhir says something about me. No one in the team tells him anything. Neither the captain nor the coach. They don’t know what’s going on. However, Sundarsan did not name the cricketer. Later that month, Gambhir held a review meeting with the BCCI. Soon after, News24 Sports published a video report in which they claimed that Gambhir had blamed Sarfaraz for the dressing room leak. However, there was no explanation in this matter after that.

Why is Gambhir’s statement viral again?

After Sarfaraz’s non-selection against South Africa A, an ax handle named Crickettopia claimed that Gautam Gambhir had accused Sarfaraz of leaking things from the dressing room and therefore would not have a place in the team as long as Gambhir was the coach. The post said, ‘Reports claim that in January 2025, Gambhir told BCCI officials that Sarfaraz had leaked details of his dressing room tantrum after the Boxing Day Test. The BCCI is said to be unhappy with him and Sarfraz is unlikely to play for India as long as Gambhir remains the head coach.
