According to reports, a police officer was killed and another injured in New Jersey Newark on Friday night.
The shooting took place at 6:30 pm near the intersection of Carterate Street and Broadway.
Both officers were taken to a university hospital, where one was pronounced dead, Fox 5 Report.
According to a Facebook post by the philanthropic association of the New Jersey State Police Commission, the condition of the injured officer is in critical condition.
A suspect was shot at the scene and a handgun was found according to Fox 5.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy wrote in a post on X that it was updated on the incident.
He wrote, “This is a rapidly developing situation.” “Please pray for these officers, their families and all our men and women who put their lives on the line to keep us safe.”
His team confirmed that Murphy and his wife Tammy made a private visit to the University Hospital in Newark.

“In the last three hours, 4 police officers have shot, one has died,” Goldi wrote in a post on X. “Charlotte-Meklenberg (NC) PD officials, both are expected to receive a re-recover. An official of Newark (NJ) has given the final sacrifice … please be involved in your thoughts and prays.”
