IND vs AUS 5th T20I: Abhishek Sharma made a brilliant start to his international career in his maiden tour of Australia. The aggressive left-arm opening batsman scored 163 runs in the series and won the Player of the Series award, showing that he can play in his natural style even on Australian pitches. Number one T20 batsman Abhishek has performed well at the top of India’s batting order after being given the freedom to play his high-risk style of cricket. It is known that he may face early dismissal due to his overly aggressive style. In the last two matches of this series, his catch was dropped in the very first over. Gambhir and Surya gave Abhishek the freedom to play freely
However, his ability to single-handedly turn a match in India’s favor and his aggressive style have given him a distinct identity. After becoming the player of the series, Abhishek thanked his captain Suryakumar Yadav and coach Gautam Gambhir for showing faith in him. Abhishek said, ‘Captain and coach have given me clarity and confidence. As a batsman, when you score 20 or 30, you know you can play long, but the clarity of setting the pace for the team has really helped me. Abhishek says that the coach and captain gave him complete freedom to play in his own style.
Abhishek’s strike rate in T20 is 190
Abhishek has scored runs at a strike rate of 190 in nearly 30 matches in his T20 career, which shows that his ability is coupled with a gameplan that makes him extremely aggressive in the powerplay. However, Abhishek is focusing on getting his form right and peaking in time for the domestic T20 World Cup in early 2026. He admitted that his dream is to lift the trophy with India and has the freedom to play the kind of cricket he wants to play.
Abhishek’s dream is to win the World Cup
Abhishek, who is set to play his first ICC tournament for India next year, said, ‘If I get a chance to play in the World Cup, it will be a dream come true. As a child, I always dreamed of winning it for India. I will make sure I am ready for that tournament. After the first and last T20I matches were washed out due to rain, India clinched the series with two wins from three matches. India’s win has also ruled out captain Suryakumar Yadav, where he has failed to perform with the bat.
