According to Musk, the vandalism and attack on Teslas are increased by criticism of his leadership in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a federal agency that has reduced millions of funds for government programs and reduced the number of federal jobs. He claims that rhetoric from Democratic leaders, especially Dodge, and those who opposed his involvement, have raised anger against Tesla and his supporters.
“They are being preached on the left, and they believe,” Musk said.

“I got a normal playbook,” he said.
“They called the President all these things … At one point there was a magazine cover, saying that President Hitler, Mussolini and Stalin were worse than Joint. And the President did not kill anyone. He did not start any war. In fact, it is good to stop the war.”
