IPL 2025 was postponed for a week due to tensions between India and Pakistan. Now the tournament is going to be resumed from 17th May, before all the teams have a turmoil.
In fact, when IPL 2025 was postponed for a week, most of the foreign players returned to their countries. Looking at the international cricket schedule, some players will return to India to play IPL and not some. In this situation, some new rules have been created for replacement in the tournament.
A new rule of replacement in IPL 2025
Many players will not be available after IPL 2025 resumes. There will be some players who will be able to play a league stage match but will not reach the playoffs. In this situation, the new rule states that the team will not be able to retain the players who were brought to the middle of the season as a replacement.
Replacement players approved by BCCI before the suspension of IPL 2025 can be retained for the next season. This clearly means that the players who come as a replacement after the suspension will have to knock on the auction door next season.
Who will come back and who not?
The IPL 2025 tournament will resume on May 17. Before that, the biggest question is which foreign players will return to India and which is not? Jose Butler may lose playoffs due to the series against West Indies, while his colleague Kagiso Rabada of Gujarat Titans could be excluded from the remaining matches due to the WTC final. Josh Hazelwood is questioned in view of the World Test Championship, but it is estimated that Pet Cummins and Travis Head can play the remaining matches of IPL 2025.
Big names like Marco Jenson, Will Jacks and Mitchell Starc are also under suspicion. One of the main players of the Lucknow Super Giants, Eden Markram may not be available for other matches.
