Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek says the Alberta government is waiting for the city to determine the future of the city’s only observed drug-use site.
In a letter to Premier Daniel Smith, Gondek says that the province did not comply with his promises and his delay is “worried and distressed”.
The monitored consumption site is located at the Sheldon Chumir Health Center of the Calgary Beltline neighborhood.

The Alberta government under the former Premier Jason Keny committed to shut down the Sheldon Chumir inspection consumption site in the Calgary Beltline neighborhood in 2022 and replaced it with two others.
But the site, also known as the Safwork Site, remains open.

Gondaq is proposing that the city and the province start working together in formal to find an immediate settlement.
The Safwork Site provides a healthy environment for people to use drugs under medical supervision.
