Calgary accuses Alberta government of drug -use site – Calgary’s future of inaction

Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek says the Alberta government is waiting for the city to determine the future of the city’s only observed drug-use site.

In a letter to Premier Daniel Smith, Gondek says that the province did not comply with his promises and his delay is “worried and distressed”.

The monitored consumption site is located at the Sheldon Chumir Health Center of the Calgary Beltline neighborhood.

The Alberta government under the former Premier Jason Keny committed to shut down the Sheldon Chumir inspection consumption site in the Calgary Beltline neighborhood in 2022 and replaced it with two others.
