Calgary police have charged a 63-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting a young girl inside a tailor shop in southeast Calgary.
Police allege that at the time of the alleged assault, Zufan Seyum Galette lived at 3509 17 Ave. Absalat worked at Taylor located at SE.
Investigators say the girl and her mother were shopping in the area when they ran into Galette, who was an acquaintance of the family.
They had a brief conversation and the man invited the girl to wait with him in the shop while her mother ran to a nearby business.

While inside the store, police believe the man forced the girl to sit on his lap while he touched her inappropriately and sexually assaulted her.
Police say the girl walked out of the tailor shop, found her mother and told her about the incident.

Later, the girl’s family contacted the police and the Child Abuse Unit started an investigation.
Galette was arrested on Thursday, December 12, 2024 and charged with sexual assault and sexual interference with a person under the age of 16.
He is next scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.
