Cancer treatment in 18 hospitals in Maharashtra will now be focused mainly on cancer treatment.
Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the scheme will soon implement cancer diagnosis and treatment system in all districts. The scheme is said to facilitate cancer treatment in Maharashtra. According to the information provided by the Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Office, the Maharashtra Cancer Care, Research and Education Foundation (Mahakar Foundation) will be established for this purpose, in which the initial allocation will be ₹ 100 crore. In addition, 20 % of the fees collected under the Mahatma Phule Public Health Scheme will be added to this foundation.
Hospitals split into three layers
To achieve this, 18 hospitals across the state will provide all types of cancer treatment. These hospitals will be divided into three layers: L-1, L-2, and L-3. Radiotherapy, chemotherapy, surgery, psychological assistance, research, pardon care and medicines will be provided here. Graduation and super-specialty programs will also be offered here.
Government decision helpful to people
Regarding the hospitals included in these three levels, Tata Memorial Hospital has been placed in the L-1 series. The L-2 series includes government medical colleges of Aurangabad, Nagpur, Mumbai, Kolhapur, Pune, Nashik and Amravati. In addition, L-3 includes Ambajogai, Nanded, Yavatmal, Satara, Baramati, Jalgaon, Ratnagiri and Shirdi. According to a report released by the Indian Council of Medical Research, cancer cases are constantly increasing in Maharashtra. By 2025, the number of cancer patients in the state will increase by 11 percent over 2020. In such a case, the decision of this government can be helpful for the people.
