Actor and casting director Abhishek Banerjee IIFA came to Jaipur to host the 2025 award show.
Bhaskar: IIFA in Jaipur for the first time. How was the experience of hosting here?
Coronation: I have previously hosted in IIFA Rocks (Dubai). Hosting here has been a lot of entertaining experience for me. In hosting, I keep in mind that the audience who has come to see the award show should not be bored.
I try to engage the audience instead of the script. I am an entertainer by profession, so it is my religion that I entertain people a lot.
Talking about Rajasthan and Jaipur, it is one of my favorite states. Culture, catering, people here are all very spectacular. There is Rajasthan and Jaipur International Destination where people come from different cities of the world. I am very happy that we are celebrating IIFA’s 25th year in Jaipur.
Bhaskar: How was the journey from casting director to becoming an actor?
Coronation: I would not call this journey a struggle, yes, he had to do a lot of work. Ever since I came to Mumbai, someone has been engaged in some work. I always did my work with dedication. I have completely dedicated myself to cinema and film industry.
As much as I am getting love from people today, it is due to my dedication and hard work towards work and acting. The industry also trusted me so he was able to move so much.
I thank IIFA very much that they recounted me and gave such a big platform where I am hosting in front of such a big audience.

Abhishek Banerjee played a negative character of Hammer Tyagi in Patalalok season 1.
Bhaskar: How much is Irfan Khan’s work inspired?
Coronation: I am very unfortunate that working with him could not even get a chance to talk far away. He was such a big artist that even after his departure, our generation is being inspired by his work and the coming generation will also continue to take inspiration. His departure is a big loss for our industry. If he were alive today, he would have ruled the world with his work in the next few years in acting. I would just like to say that by taking inspiration from them, artists like us are moving forward.
Bhaskar: Apart from comedy, which genre is there where you want to show the variety of your acting skill?
Coronation: After the love I have met for the role of Jana in the film Stree, after that I am afraid that I should not be exposed anywhere. The audience says, he is doing the same.
It is afraid that the audience should not begin to prevent your comedy timing that yes it will speak like this now. Govinda and Akshay Kumar Sir are my inspiration in the case of comedy.
Apart from comedy, I think I would like to explore myself in human drama and social drama. I enjoy doing a relationship drama.
The web series on real story Patalalok was a social crime drama. Stonn is my upcoming film, this entire film is shot in Pushkar. She is also a film inspired by a real life incident. Such characters appeal to me more.

Abhishek gained tremendous popularity by playing the role of Jana in Stree Aur Stree 2 film.
Bhaskar: Being a casting director, did you help in acting?
Coronation: Absolutely. Being a casting director, I could understand the need of the director of the film what he wants from a character. I have spent a lot of time in the audition room with the actors. I have done a different type of characters in the allredi audition room. I am getting the benefit of that seven and eight years of hard work somewhere in acting today.
Bhaskar: Now in India too, spy universe, horror comedy universe is becoming. Is our audience ready for this?
Coronation: I believe that we should not forget our roots while creating a universe. What happens is that in the process of making the Universe, we often try to make Part 2 or Three bigger than before. If the first film is shot in Darjeeling or Goa, the next part is shooting in China or Thailand.
This perception will have to be changed. It is not our job in creating a universe that we make the film grand. Our job is to move the film forward. View Drishyam-1 and Drishyam-2. The same character, the same small city but how does the journey of story and characters move forward. At the same time, if Drishyam-2 was taken to Singapore or Bangkok, the film would not have been left for Drishyam-2.
I think it is very important to understand that we do not need to grow up, just the story should be carried forward. Because the audience is already connected to the characters. Then the Universe pattern will move forward.
Bhaskar: You catch accent very well, how do you like Rajasthani language?
Coronation: The role I have played in the film Veda speaks Rajasthani language. The dialect trainer told me that there is equality in Rajasthani and Haryanvi words, but the tone of speaking is different. Many people speak Rajasthani in Haryanvi style in films, but the way of speaking Rajasthani is exactly like a camel trick. As the camel runs in the sand, Rajasthani dialect is also spoken.

Abhishek played the lead villain in the Veda film on the background of Rajasthan.
Bhaskar: What is the special thing about Rajasthan, which you think has not been explore yet?
Abhishek: Stories are left in the fort, palace, culture of Rajasthan, which can be shown on the cinematic screen. The roots of Rajasthan’s cultural heritage are very deep. King Maharaja may not be no longer but those practices are still in the royal family. I think it is not only a very important part of the country but also in Rajasthan.
We go to Greece to see architecture, but we do not come to see the architecture of Rajasthan. Our own people do not roam their country. We have a jalmahal of Jaipur. Hawamahal, the royal palace of Udaipur, the chic of Gajner Palace, is the world’s most beautiful sunset in Jaisalmer. I think the younger generation must explore Rajasthan.
Bhaskar: South films are performing well at the box office, what are the reasons?
Coronation: There has been a technical evolution in the South Industry which is clearly visible in his films. The cinematography, VFX, Editing is amazing there. It is an example of Bahubali and KGF. Period drama is being made plenty.
His characters are associated with common people. Pushpa’s hero is not a hero with six pack abs, it is coolie. Who has done Bachchan Saheb Alredi in the 70s. Somewhere we had shown this path somewhere, but the South Industry is presenting it in a different way.
Director like Prashant Neel, Sukumar and actor like Allu Arjun also consider Amitabh Bachchan as his inspiration. We also have to understand that important do not make our industry a foreign industry, but let the Indian industry remain and keep making films related to the common audience.

Abhishek started his career as a casting director. After this, he tried himself in acting.
Bhaskar: Chhava film is earning a lot of name. Why do films not be made on the big historical characters of Rajasthan?
Coronation: It takes a lot of money to make a historical period drama. For the makers, the same amount of money is also a big challenge. Now films like Chhava are going on, then a kind of culture has come in India. I hope that such period drama films will be made on the great characters of Rajasthan in the coming years. In which the famous battles here will be shown. If the audience spends money on such films, then the industry will also get motivation.
If I talk to me, I would like to play the character of Shaheed Khudiram Bose in a period drama. At the age of 21, he swung and said that if someone is not coming after hearing your voice, then you go yourself.
His saying was not just asked to get freedom, but also for life that if you find something right, then people will get out of themselves to pass by doing it.
Bhaskar: Is not now the original stories are being written in the industry, which is increasing the trend of remakes?
Coronation: Actually, the process of making a film is very expensive, so the first thing is that if we are making a film, it is very important to come to the money, somewhere this is happening because of it.
This is the reason why people trust more on the subjects that are already hit or gone. There will be an idea behind him that this story has gone there will also go here.
The real thing is that India is a country full of diversities. The same subject should go to another place, it is not necessary. Because there is a lot of difference in the society. It is not necessary that the story of Bihar goes to Punjab or the story of Punjab in Bengal. It is very important to understand this difference.
Many films have been made by Hollywood people inspired by Spanish or French story but they make according to the society and culture of their country. We are making a mistake here.
People wonder why we work hard or why pay more money to the writer? This is the thinking that we are killing because of this. As an industry, we are working for people. The audience can become stupid once or twice, not again and again.
As an industry, we used to rule till a few years ago that there is no greater entertainer than us. Now so many entertainers have come on Insta and YouTube. Our competition is now from the new medium which is completely new.
People take 2 hours while watching the 1 minute reel, so why should they go for two hours in cinema hall? We have to work hard to take the audience to the cinema hall. As a true artist, we have to prove ourselves again and again in front of the audience.
