A cease-fire agreement between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip came into effect on Sunday after a nearly three-hour delay. The cease-fire has brought to a halt 15 months of devastating conflict. This has caused widespread destruction and loss of life.
PM Netanyahu announced
Israel PM Netanyahu’s office said in an X post that a cease-fire has come into effect in Gaza. Netanyahu’s office said the cease-fire took effect three hours late because Hamas delayed handing over a list of hostages. PM Netanyahu also said in an X post that Israel has received a list of hostages and their security is being checked.
Delay in giving list of hostages
A cease-fire agreement has been reached between Israel and Hamas to find a way to end the war that has been raging for more than a year. It has to be implemented in phases. According to the agreement, the hostages will be released in the first 42 weeks. About 33 Israeli citizens are currently in Hamas custody. Of these, three hostages, whose names have been handed over to Israel by Hamas, are due to be released on Sunday.
Ceasefire agreement entered into force 3 hours late
The first phase of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas was to take effect from 8.30am on Sunday. According to Israeli media, Hamas delayed the release of the hostage list and then executed it at 11.15am. Three female hostages will be released on the first day. Earlier, the Israeli army carried out the final phase of its bombardment in Gaza, claiming that Hamas targets had been destroyed.
