There will be no war between Israel and Hamas for the next six weeks. Israel and Hamas have agreed to a ceasefire. An Israeli official says Gaza ceasefire talks with Hamas hit a last-minute snag, stalling the deal.

A Hamas official said the group had rejected Israel’s proposal for a Gaza cease-fire and negotiations were ongoing. Qatari and Hamas officials have since said that a last-minute standoff in ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas has been resolved. Afterward, Israeli and Hamas officials said a ceasefire had been agreed to end Israel’s war in Gaza and free dozens of hostages.

Qatar intervened, after which the matter was resolved

Qatar’s prime minister, who is mediating the talks, met separately with delegations from Hamas and Israel, and shortly after, the dispute was resolved, a Qatari official told the AP. Let us tell you that the ceasefire agreement marks the end of the 15-month conflict between Israel and Hamas.

The US, Egypt and Qatar last year brokered an end to the war, which began in October 2023 due to a Hamas attack on Israel. During months of negotiations, both sides previously said they were close to a ceasefire only to hit roadblocks at the last minute.

The war on Gaza erupted on October 7, 2023, after Hamas launched its deadliest attack on Israel, resulting in the deaths of 1,210 people, mostly civilians, according to AFP figures. Hamas also took 251 hostages from Israel during the attack, 94 of whom are still being held in Gaza, 34 of whom have been declared dead by the Israeli military.
