Ahmedabad: In today‘s age of technology, therapy is given through electronic devices like electrotherapy, radiotherapy to get relief from joint pain after or after any surgery. A Japanese Medical Manual Therapy Clinic is located in the Blind People’s Association at Vastrapur, Ahmedabad. The important thing is that apart from providing therapy training to blind students in this clinic, they also treat patients.

Talking to JMMT course coordinator Rajeshbhai Parmar, he said that in the year 2012-13, JMMT trainer Saburo Sasada came from Japan. Here, he trained JMMT for six months to blind students from both Japan and India. In which four from Ahmedabad and two from Dehradun, six students from all over India were prepared. Six students trained in this unique massage art are currently providing therapy as well as training other students.

Japanese Medical Manual Therapy Course is conducted in India only at Andhajan Mandal, Ahmedabad. The specialty of this course is that it includes a total of three therapies namely Shiatsu, Acupuncture and Acupressure. All three therapies are known as Japanese Medical Manual Therapy. The duration of this course is two years and there is an internship of six months. The examination result for this course is provided by the University of Tsukuba, Tokyo. While giving this therapy, a cotton cloth is placed on the part of the patient’s body where the therapy is to be given.

After that manual therapy is given by the expert. In which the hand is known as “talking hand”. The special thing is that no cream, tube, oil, powder or any electric machine is used in this therapy. Patients come here for shoulder stiffness, arm, frozen shoulder, muscle spasm, tension, neck, shoulder, upper back, lower back, acidity, migraine, headache, hips and other organ pain. Who are treated completely free of cost by the institute. A special type of human sculpture has been prepared for the students to train in this course.

In which a total of 14 meridians have been drawn on the model and white dots have been marked on it. which shows the points of acupressure. A total of 361 points are shown in this model. A special type of coded sticker is also placed next to each of these acupoints. Which can be known by scanning through touch memopen. So that a blind person can easily understand that this point is located on this part of the body and that it is used to cure that disease. Thus the training imparted through a special type of technique has proved to be very useful for the students.

Importantly, this course can be learned only by a visually impaired person. Also there is no age limit for doing this course. Only visually impaired students who have passed class 12 can get training in this course.

Japanese medical manual therapy is a non-invasive, gender-neutral treatment for neuromuscular disorders. JMMT provides a wide range of service packages. It helps the visually impaired person to gain professional independence. The art is widely practiced in spas, hotels and offices in Japan. Along with this, this therapy is also considered a part of Japanese tradition. It will provide a good career option for visually impaired people in India in the near future. Its main objective is to provide better professional independence and empowerment to visually impaired people in India.

How to get admission?

Candidates interested in this therapy can download and complete their application from the Blind People Association website. Along with this, candidates have to write their application on plain paper along with 10th and 12th mark sheet, school leaving certificate and copy of disability certificate.
