BAPS Swaminarayan Hindu Temple and Cultural Complex have been inaugurated on Sunday in the North Riding area of Johannesburg. On this historic occasion, a holy soul prestige ceremony was organized under the leadership of BAPS’s global spiritual guru Param Pujya Swami Maharaj. This temple has now become the largest Hindu temple and cultural center in the southern hemisphere, a symbol of Hinduism, Indian culture and inter-religious dialogue.
A 12 -day special festival ‘Festival of Hope and Unity’ organized at the inauguration of the temple
The inauguration of the temple and the anointing ceremony was an important moment not only for the Hindu community, but also for the multiple cultural heritage of South Africa. After the ceremony, a large number of devotees flocked to visit the temple. The festival will be celebrated for 12 days under the Hop and Unity Festival organized by BAPS. The purpose of this festival is to display a deep connection between Indian and African traditions, including art, culture and heritage.

South Africa Vice President Paul Mashatyl also attended the historic program. He attended the ceremony and met Param Pujya Mahant Swami Maharaj. He praised the contribution of the temple in multicultural and inter-religious harmony and described it as an important center of strengthening the cultural diversity of South Africa. He saw the establishment of the temple as a way to promote mutual understanding and cooperation between different communities of society.
The center of this temple is culture and spirituality
The temple is spread over an area of 5.9 hectares and has a built-up area over 37,000 square meters. This complex is the center of Hinduism, art, culture and spirituality, which not only displays the legacy of Hindu traditions but also promotes dialogue and understanding between many religions. Hundreds of volunteers showed their selfless service and dedication in its creation. BAPS has planted more than 100 trees to make the campus environmentally responsible. This magnificent temple and cultural complex have been inaugurated in South Africa as a permanent spiritual and cultural heritage that will inspire the coming generations.
