The former Catholic priest had already taken advantage of the sensitive community when he sexually exploited many inute children, the Crown complainant said in a hearing on Friday.
Eric Djiger’s six girls and a boy were attacked in an NVT’s Hamlet this week between 1978 and 1982 in an Eq AL Lute Cortroom.
Dajger was previously convicted of dozens of more crimes against children and adults in Nunawoot and Alberta.
The 77 -year -old guilty on Thursday for seven counts of a fiery assault. On Friday, complainant Emma Bash and defense lawyer Scott Cowan jointly recommended a six -year prison sentence.
The courts have long rejected the epidemic of sexual exploitation against women and children in Nunavoot, in the argument of his punishment.
“The epidemic has not contributed and contributed to the influence of socio-economic factors and colonialism, but Eric Djegger has provided a complete view of years of abuse of years on the Eagulic community.”

Judge Fayyaz Alibhai said that Devar’s guilty petition should be considered a factor in the punishment, as he saves the victims of testimony.
But he said that the victims should weigh against numerous exciting factors, including the younger age, due to the fact that the Djiger was in a state of faith and permanent damage to his crimes.
“Finally, no line can erase the damage,” he said. “Hopefully, the victims can now get a sense of closure.”
The tragic attack is no longer listed as a crime under a criminal code but when abused.
“Shame on our predecessor in Parliament, but the maximum sentence for some of these crimes was five years,” Kowan told about decades -old law.
He said that when it is associated with the principles of the existing-term punishment-the six-year term forms “a square with justice”.
In view of the time that Djiger has already served on the recognition of other sexual offenses, “what he is getting is effectively punishing a 30 year sentence,” Kovan said.
“Nobody should say that Mr. Devar was ever behaved noble.”

The five survivors described the statements of the victim’s impact on Thursday how the attack led to addiction, mental health conflict, weak self -esteem and mistrust.

The youngest victim in the case was four when abuse began, and the other was between six and nine.
The court heard that some victims have refused to set foot in the Catholic Church as a result of abuse, and long-lasting attacks have completely damaged the tight-knit community.

Dejger was previously convicted of committing numerous sexual crimes while acting as an Oblet Missionary. He started 1990 for a five -year sentence, starting in 1990 for sexual offenses against Baker Lake, NVT, committed between 1990 and 1989.
In 2015, he was sentenced to 19 years in prison for 32 offenses against inuit children and some adults between 1978 and 1982 in Eglulik. Crimes include lack of attack, illegal imprisonment and livestock.
Later that year, he was sentenced to Alberta for a history of historical hypocritical sexual crime, serving simultaneously with his sentence for the previous Eglolic charges. After serving a two -thirds of his sentence, he was given a legal release on May 19, 2022.
Alibhai is scheduled to be sentenced to the latest offenses next Thursday.
The judge thanked the victim for telling their stories.
“It is important not only for the victims, but also for all of us living in Nunawoot that the truth is called and the things that are hidden and kept in the dark are brought to light.”
