Earlier it was reported that food vendors were not coming due to high rent, now AMC has decided to keep food vendors with a monthly rent of only 25 thousand. Earlier there was an arrangement where more than 42 food vendors could stand. Among the 43 food vendors, the fares fixed by the AMC were becoming expensive. Following this, 36 food vendors went to the court and submitted to reduce the fares. Based on fixed base price for all 42 periods of Low-Garden Happy Street, the AMC is Rs. 3,72,00,000/- expected annual revenue was estimated. Against this, the estimated income from the amount paid in advance for six months of the first year by the 22 bidders in the tender cum auction is Rs. 1,22,28,000/-, after which, the business was maintained by only 13 bidders who did not get business and at the end of three years only 5 bidders remained. This estimated revenue of Rs. 42,00,000/-, thus, a reduction of 90% compared to the expected income. Expected revenue is not generated from this site. Notably, only 5 stalls out of 42 are functional. Given that, the current license fee is largely unaffordable to the vendors, businesses are going out of business and even after conducting the tender process twice, no suitable offers have been received. So a reconsideration seems appropriate. Furthermore, the aim was to ensure that Happy Street as a food street succeeds and preserves the heritage of Ahmedabad city as a food street. Written and oral submissions were received by 36 traders of the old Low-Garden Food and Beverage Market who were previously doing business at the location.
