Musical ‘Soul in the City’ Edmonton’s Black History – Edmonton

Black Edmontonians have a look at how the first came to the city and how the community has changed over time.

That is the history that Darren W. Jordan, Director of Musical, SoulWant to share with people.

“It basically gives a history of the story of how black people really end in Edmonton,” Jordan said.

“Lots of black people were finished in Alberta … because people from Alberta came and invited to settle.”

“Many people were leaving troubles and stresses in Central America, Oklahoma, Central America, trying to escape the Jim Crow law.”

It also includes the new effects of those who arrive in Edmonton.

“It is people from the Caribbean, Europe, the continent of Africa and the whole world that the city has come home,” Jordan said.

“It’s so rich mix right now.”

That product includes singer Rivo Egor, who went to Edmonton from Nigeria about a decade ago.

He says Soul There is more than music. It is also an educational experience for him.

“Learning to live here and what history is and what it means for many black Canadians, it is really opening the eye,” Agor said.

“It is good to be aware of some of the great things that black people do in the city, country, world, and we celebrate it,” said singer Nigel Williams.
