Quebec’s education minister is asking a school in the Charlevoix region to reconsider its decision to force students to choose between sports-oriented programs and advanced math and science.
Bernard Drainville’s office says he wants the Ecole secondaire du Plateau in La Malbaie, quay, to seek another solution after hearing complaints from parents and citizens.

The president of the school’s governing council resigned on Monday after voting to prevent rich academics from participating in sports or cultural events offered by the school to Grade 10 and 11 students.
Isabelle Bolduc says teachers found it too difficult to coordinate the schedules of students studying both sports and advanced math and science.
But she says it’s unfair to make teenagers choose between academic achievement and other passions.
Melissa Bouchard, a mother of two, started a petition that has gathered more than 1,200 signatures against the school bans.
She says many students are able to successfully balance sports and studies, and don’t feel they should make a choice that could potentially limit their career.
