Ranya is the step daughter of DGP Ramchandra Rao of Karnataka Police Housing Corporation.
Kannada actress Ranya Rao, arrested in the Karnataka gold Smuggling case, has accused the Revenue Intelligence Directorate (DRI) officials of assaulting and starving.
Ranya wrote a letter to the Additional Director General of DRI and described himself as innocent and said that he was implicated in a false case.
Ranya wrote- Dri officers were pressurizing me to sign empty pages. I was also slapped 10-15 times on refusing. I was made a lot of pressure, followed by 50-60 typed pages and 40 empty pages.
Ranya was arrested by DRI with 14 kg of gold while returning from Dubai at Kempe Gowda International Airport in Bengaluru on 3 March. Ranya is in 14 days judicial custody.
Some people of Delhi implicated me in the case
Ranya has claimed that she has been implicated in the case. No gold was recovered from him. Ranya has claimed that some people from Delhi told me that they are officers. They have implicated me to save the culprits of the case.
Ranya cried during the hearing in court on 10 March. He had alleged that during interrogation, when she did not respond to questions, DRI officials abuse her.
Ranya’s bail plea rejected
On March 14, a special court of economic crimes refused to grant bail to Ranya. The court said- The allegations against Ranya are serious. They should remain in a judicial custody.
