The 18 -year -old Sairaj Pardesh of Manmad, Maharashtra, made history with his brilliant performance in the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship 2025.
In this big tournament held in Ahmedabad, Sairaj won the gold medal in the 88kg category of junior men and made a new junior Commonwealth record by lifting a total of 348 kg (157kg snatch and 191kg clean and jerk).

The son of a garbage dealer is Sairaj foreigner
Sairaj Pardeshi’s father works as a garbage dealer. He started weightlifting at the age of 12 in 2018. Sairaj Pardesh has achieved great achievements this year. It broke three national youth records in the 81kg category at the Khelo India Youth Games in May 2025, including 140kg snatch, 172kg clean and jerk and a total of 312kg. In addition, he made a national record by lifting 310 kg (139kg snatch + 171kg clean and jerk) at the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships held in Doha in 2024.
