In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 match between Mumbai and Assam, a rare event took place in T20 cricket. Mumbai captain Shardul Thakur bowled in the powerplay itself and destroyed Assam’s entire batting line-up. Defending a strong target of 220, Shardul Thakur put Mumbai in a strong position in the first three overs. Shardul Thakur’s impressive form ahead of IPL 2025 also bodes well for Mumbai Indians, who sold him from Lucknow.

Shardul Thakur wreaked havoc with the bowling

Defending the target of 220 runs, Shardul Thakur opened the bowling for Mumbai. He took three wickets in his first over. He dismissed Assam opener Danish Das with the first ball of the innings. He then took the wicket of Abdul Aziz Qureshi in the third ball and Ryan Parag in the fifth ball as well, ending Assam’s innings. Shardul Thakur also started his second over in a similar manner.
