The Gujarat women’s team secured a historic medal by defeating the higher ranked Tamil Nadu team with the help of skipper Kritvika Sinha Roy’s brilliant performance in the UTT 86th Senior National Inter State Table Tennis Championship played at the PDPU Indoor Stadium.
Gujarat women’s table tennis team will win a medal for the first time in the 86-year history of Senior Nationals. Apart from Kritvika, the Gujarat team includes Franaz Chipiya, Oishiki Joardar, Filzah Fatima Qadri and Rhea Jaiswal. Oishiki defeated Ace Selena 3-2 in the quarter finals. Kritvika scored a 3-1 win against Yashi to give Gujarat a 2-0 lead. In the third match, Surat’s Franaz trailed by two games but fought back to level the score at 2-2 against Kavyashree. However, as Tamil Nadu lost that match, the score was 1-2. Kritvika secured a 3-1 victory for Gujarat by winning the second match against Selena 8-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-8.
