Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, DNY. The government closed a few hours before the deadline at 11:59 pm on Friday after sufficient Democrats helped the Republicans defeat the Philibster.
The bill now depends on President Donald Trump’s desk for the signature. The Senate had earlier taken a major procedural vote on the Stopg AP-cost bill, which needed to meet 60-mote thresholds to move forward, also known as MLA Philibster.
The House Republican is a continuous resolution of a short -term bill at the beginning of the week. The bill will keep the cost level as the financial year (FY) 2024 by October 1.

If the cost bill was not passed by Friday’s deadline, the government would enter a partial shutdown.
During the partial government shutdown, federal agencies and non-essential services will be prevented. However, government functions considered “required” will continue. National security protocols, such as border petrol, law enforcement and disaster response, remain active during the shutdown.
On Friday evening, the vote of passing a six -month CR came in the afternoon after the vote of critical action. A handful of Senate Democrats provided the necessary votes for the Republican majority to remove the Philibster and move on with the stopgap cost bill.
