An emergency demolition order has been issued for a vacant Winnipeg home that was gutted by fire early Sunday morning.
Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service said it was called to the 200 block of Austin Street North, just east of Main Street in Point Douglas, at 6:20 a.m.
The crew was forced to take a defensive approach, as it was unsafe to enter the house. Firefighters also had to contend with frigid temperatures that rendered the area snow-covered and slippery.
The fire service said the temperature was so low that crews had to turn from the fire line to cool off from the cold.

Firefighters said no injuries were reported, and they were able to contain the fire, but the building will have to be demolished.

“The building sustained significant smoke, fire and water damage,” the fire service said in a media release. “Due to structural concerns and to ensure all hot spots are extinguished, WFPS is conducting emergency demolitions.”
The fire service said crews were called to a previous fire at the same house last March.
Neighbors have been warned to be careful in the area, as water used to fight the fire has frozen and created slippery conditions.
