But now reports have surfaced that Kohli will not play in the next round of the Ranji Trophy, which starts on January 23. Apart from that, KL Rahul has also told the BCCI that he will not be available for these round off matches. Both players have cited injury to the board for not playing.
Is Kohli and Rahul injured?
According to a report by ESPN Cricinfo, Virat Kohli has a sore neck. He has been dealing with this injury since the Border Gavaskar Trophy and also received an injection for it on 8 January after the series ended. But yet he could not come out of it. Kohli has told the BCCI medical staff that he is still suffering from a sore throat. This is the reason why he will not be able to play the next Ranji match against Saurashtra on January 23.
Domestic cricket has to be given priority
He has been retained in the Delhi squad and was also seen practicing. On the other hand, if we talk about KL Rahul, he has an elbow injury. Due to this, he will not be able to participate for his home team Karnataka in the match against Punjab on January 23. Let us tell you that he is soon going to become a father for the first time. The 10 guidelines issued by the BCCI state that players have to give priority to domestic cricket. If not, action can be taken against them.
These players will play Ranji matches
However, both the players will not play in this match but will get one more chance. Actually, the final round of group stage in Ranji Trophy is scheduled to be played from January 30 to January 2. The ODI series against England will begin on January 6. Both players can be seen in it. But there is a gap of 3 days between both the matches. So, if they want, they can participate in the final round. On the other hand, Shubman Gill will play for Punjab, Rishabh Pant for Delhi and Yashaswi Jaiswal for Mumbai in the match to be played on January 23.
