Police in York Region released a video on social media Friday showing a resident trying to get an allegedly intoxicated man out of driving before he called police.

Police say the man rammed into the walls of the parking garage several times before the woman tried to get inside.

“Are you sure you’re okay? Did you drink?” She is seen asking him in the video.

He replies, “A little, yes.”

The woman then politely requests that he stop driving.

“No, please don’t drive … please think of your children,” she said to which he responded incoherently.

“You’re hitting a wall, my friend,” she said. “I will call the police. You should not drive. You are endangering other people’s lives.”

A police spokesperson told Global News that the incident happened on September 8, 2024 in a Richmond Hill parking garage near Major McKenzie Drive and Pugsley Avenue.

Const. James Dixon said in an email.

A 56-year-old Richmond Hill man faces charges of impaired operation and careless driving in connection with the incident, according to Dixon.
