Why is it necessary to add a name to the ration card?

After the wedding, a new member is added to the family, and it is necessary to update this to the ration card. This can benefit the new member of the government schemes, and also determine the amount of family ration. In particular, if the wife’s name is removed from her pier’s ration card and adding it to a new family card, this process becomes inevitable.

Process: Online and offline

In many states of India, the addition of names to ration cards is available both online and offline. This process is also very easy in Gujarat. Let’s understand both methods step-by-step.

Offline process

(1) Get the form – First, you have to take a form to add a name to the ration card from the office of the nearest food and supply department. In Gujarat, this form is known as ‘Form No. 4’.

(2) Collect the required documents

The following documents have to be attached to the form:

– Marriage Certificate: This is a legal evidence of marriage.

– Wife’s Aadhar card: Aadhaar card should have the husband’s name and address update.

– Husband’s ration card: To add a name.

– Certificate of removal from Pierre’s ration card: If the wife’s name is still in her Pierre’s ration card, this certificate has to be taken.

– Proof of address: such as electricity bill, gas bill or rental agreement.

– Passport Size Photo: Recent photo of wife.

(3) Fill in the form and submit

Fill all the details properly in the form. After this, submit the form and documents at the Food and Supply Department’s Office or Mamlatdar office.

(4) Verification

Officers will test the documents. Sometimes, they can come home and do physical verification. After submitting the form, you will get a receipt number, which allows you to check your application status. Upon completion of the verification, the wife’s name will be added to the ration card. This can usually take 15-30 days.

Online process (for Gujarat)
